Monday Letter

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a wonderful time with your family and beloved ones during the March Break and the long weekend!

Lets take a quick look at the last 2 weeks...

the Spirit week! we had so much fun.... a picture with all students from the Character Day will be sent via email.

In Math, we finished studying all about Measurement and a project will be completed in class and partially at home soon. Here a tableau form the drama scene based on the Math book ''How long is a foot?'' where students played the roles of the story characters and measured the bed for the queen.

Also, some pictures of the students working in Math centers on the same topic...

Mini project: measuring aria and perimeter of their first names...

In Arts, with Mr Singbeil, students worked on a very delicious project: creating a cereal box cover

For the earth hour, held on Friday, March 18, students made a collage and wrote a message about how they can help protect the Earth.

Here are some pictures from the last week`s science experiments we did in class about liquids and solids.

This coming week: as you already know from my email, on Tuesday, March 29, we are hosting an art expert and we are going to work on the project: building 3-D building in our community.

Gentle reminder: please let your child bring to school a few recyclable items that can be used for our project ( see last Thursday`s email for details)

Also on Tuesday and Wednesday, Ms Adler will be teaching us Pilates!
Gentle reminder: please send to school a yoga mat, if possible.

Please note the due date for Scholastic order: Friday, April 1st ( no jokes...)

Have a nice week everyone,

Monday Letter

Dear Parents,

hope you all had a nice weekend!

I am very glad to notice my students are so eager to read French books to complete our Reading 100 books for children in need project we started recently. Students are taking this project seriously and commit to complete the plan of the story required as proof of the book they read. We will keep you posted when the project is finished!

As mentioned before, this Friday we are welcoming a Scientist in School that is going to bring fun and engaging science experiments to our class related to Air and Water unit. Parents wishing to volunteer are welcomed e-mail me directly for further instructions.

Monday Letter

Dear Parents,

I would like to say THANK YOU and that it was my pleasure to meet all parents who came last week to discuss their child`s progress in Grade 2.

Our recent in class celebrations were just fabulous!

Last week`s 100th Day was really AMAZING and a total surprise for me! Students were extremely proud in presenting their creative and interesting presentations. Now they are all posted in the hallway, and I can still observe how students stop and read them over and over!  The T-shirts created by some students were AWESOME!

After the long weekend, students were excited to be back and celebrate the Valentine`s Day and share their secret letters and their presents! We also made a big heart out of lots of small hearts. As you can see in the photos, all the mail boxes are displayed in the classroom and students are excited to write small letters to their friends even after the Valentine`s Day. Students were also provided with a large choice of activities related to 100th Day and they were very engaged into completing it.

And finally...the Gregg LeRock concert! I was very happy to hear parents and students enjoyed the show! I found it was a great experience and opportunity for my students to improve their oral and written French communication skills. I have sent home on Friday a CD order form for parents interested in purchasing a personally autographed CD from Gregg LeRock. Notice what an AWESOME T-shirt created and wore Jack for this concert!

As of Friday, February 19th, we started in our class a reading project we received from Scholastic (see the photos below in French and English). After we all read collectively 100 books, Scholastic will donate books to children in need! The cause really seemed to motivate my students and we already read our first story, completed the plan of the story and colored the first book on the poster together as a class. Every time a student will read a book and complete the story plan provided in class, he/she will color a book on the poster. Books chosen for this project are to be fiction stories  only, aiming to train students to better understand the main parts of a story which will help them become better writers of their own stories.

This upcoming week, all students will be watching Sultans of string show at school.

Also, please note that on Friday there will be pizza lunch for all students!

Short update about first week of March: on March 4th, our class is going to have a Scientist in School ( 9.00 - 11.35 am) related to the Science unit : Let it Flow: Air and Water  and we will need some volunteers again!

Four parents volunteer are welcome to help us on that day. Please email me directly to let me know if you are able to volunteer. I will try to include  parents who did have a chance to volunteer in our class so far. Thank you!

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Mme Paraschiv
