Tool Box for Parents of students in French Immersion
Dear Parents,
I would like to recommend you a fabulous resource you could use at home when supporting your child to improve his learning. This tool box was mainly created for parents of students in French Immersion or Core French.

Classroom shoes for the cold season
dear Parents,
Please send to school an indoor pair of shoes that can be left at school every day during the cold season in order to keep our classroom`s carpet area out of mud and dirt brought from outside. This pair of shoes can be the same your child is using for gym class.
thank you for your cooperation,
Mme Paraschiv

How to find the ''just the right book''?
In September, students were introduced how to choose the “just the right book” for individual reading in class.
You may find below these easy steps to review with your child when needed:
1. What do I want to read? (think about topic, genre)
2. Does this book interest me? (read title, look at pictures)
3. Can I read the first page? Do I understand the words on first page?
*Use the 5 fingers rule when reading the first page:
* If I find 1-2 words that I cannot read or don`t understand – the book is too easy.
* If I find 3-4 words that I cannot read or don`t understand – the book is just right for me.
* If find 5+ words that I cannot read or don`t understand – the book is too difficult.
Hope that helps,
Mme Paraschiv

Dear Parents,
Five more school days and ...... ready, set , go! the winter break will start!!!!! This last week before holidays will certainly be filled with joy and excitement, especially with the class party Ms. Clark ( grade 2, room 205) and I are trying to organize for our second graders. Here are important details about our winter class party:
Date : Thursday, December 17, 2015
Time : 12.30- 3.00 pm
Room : 205
Program: - kids have their own snacks for the recess as normal
- 4 different craft activities to be done in 4 centers
- students will have a chance to make all 4 crafts
- a few parents volunteers will be needed to help run the centers
( 4 - 6 parents from my class)
(Please email me directly if you wish and are able to volunteer)
- and of course.... lots of fun !
This week no new unit of study will be introduced, instead, students will be focusing on finishing and revising current units.
Please always check the red homework duo tang for new parent letters informing you about current topics studied in class and if your help at home is required.
I will keep you posted of any changes if needed.
Cheers,
Mme Paraschiv

Dear Parents,
Our holiday ”Lend a Hand” mitten activity is beginning. In honor of kindness and caring month, each student will be provided with one mitten to decorate and write one or two acts of kindness they can demonstrate to help make Humewood a caring community. Students will be able to bring their mitten at home after holiday season, as all mittens will be exposed on hallways for a few weeks.
Dance workshop: Please note that students are learning break-dancing movements. While the first two sessions were more introductory, on the third one the teacher combined all different movements from other classes and taught students a short routine. Also, students have the opportunity to show their favorite dance movement to the class. After this class, we will decide whether or not students will present it at the next assembly.
Thank you for submitting the last scholastic order on time! Your child should have brought home three new special flyers for this and last month. I appreciate it if you can submit please your second scholastic order by Thursday, December 10, 2015.
Homework update : Please note that unfortunately I missed to provide all students with the new text and dictee words last Wednesday. All students will receive it tomorrow and bring it home on Wednesday. Due to this delay, we will write the dictee on Wednesday, December 16th, 2015.
Also, students will not receive a new text on Wednesday, December 14th in order to let them fully enjoy the winter break!. The new text will be sent during first week after the break.
Sincerely,
Mme Paraschiv
